"It's going to be okay, Sunshine. I'm here. I love you."
His scream was horrific! Sarah was hunched over behind a tree with covering her ears with her arms. I had to get him to stop screaming or else someone would find us for sure. The thing about Aaron is, he is strong. He can take so much pain and so much hurt. I wanted to cry because I hated seeing him in this much pain. However, I wanted him to go unconscious again right now but he wouldn't. I quickly shoved a stick in between his teeth and his piercing screams turned into a gritted low moan. "Ssshh! Darling, you have to be quiet. I'm almost done." I firmly held the hot metal to the wound on his leg for a little while longer. When I finally stopped, his entire body relaxed and so did mine. I was able to clean the wound, take care of the infection, and bring down his fever with some medicine I had in one of the first aide kits that I had brought. Just in case. "Sarah, come here please." I stayed by Aaron's side and stroked his arm gently. Without taking me eyes off of him, I told Sarah to get me a piece of clothing out of my duffle bag. I then tied a white t-shirt of his around his leg tightly and he let out a short but loud scream. "It's okay!" I quickly said and ran my fingers through his hair. "You're going to be fine now." I kissed his lips softly to reassure him but to my surprise he kissed me back and with so much passion I forgot where we were. I forgot about everything. I focused all of my attention on his lips and to what kind of feelings they were putting into my heart.
It wasn't until I heard Sarah calling my name that made me fall from my heaven. "Um, Jenny! It's great that you and your love have been reunited and he isn't going to die after all but we kinda have to get out of here."
I looked to Aaron who looked positively exhausted. "She's right. Do you think we can make it back it the shack?"
He shook his head and struggled to sit up. Eventually, with my help, he was sitting up against a tree stump. "It's too risky to make it back to the shack at this time of day and with me in this kind of condition. Tomorrow. Early morning. We'll have to camp out here." He took hold of my hand and smiled at me a weak smile. "Just for the night, yes?"
I nodded and then introduced Aaron and Sarah. We sat around for awhile, watching the sky get darker and sounds and shapes in the forest get creepier. Sarah eventually drifted asleep by my feet and Aaron and I stayed up to keep watch. I nested under his arm and had my head resting on his shoulder. "What happened?" I said in a hush tone so not to wake up Sarah. I pointed to his leg and asked again, "How did that happen?"
He held me tighter and sighed. "One of those people under the control caught me trying to escape into the forest. He grabbed me and dragged me off to some soldiers. I tried to escape again and the next thing I know, bullets are blazing out of nowhere. One hit my leg but I still managed to escape. Jenny, those weapons. They are nothing like I have ever seen before. That bullet that hit me, it dragged through my flesh and then just disintegrated. People can get away with murder so easily with this stuff."
He had been shot? I would have never guessed that was a bullet wound. "Shit!" I said a bit louder than I should have. "Shit shit shit!"
"Jenny, calm down." He held me even tighter and put his hands on either side of my face. "Look at me." I did. "We are going to be fine. And I am so sorry I left you. I will never do that again. I thought it would be better for you if I turned myself in but I know that was stupid. We are doing this together from now on. We are going to be fine now." He kissed my forehead and tears started to flow down my face but they weren't mine. I realized Aaron was the one crying into my hair. "I'm so sorry." He cried and held me close to his chest. "Forgive me. I never should have left you alone. Oh God, Jenny, please forgive me."
"Of course I forgive you, darling. Don't worry about that. Let's just worry about getting back to the shack tomorrow. We'll be somewhat safer there. Then we'll figure out what to do." I kissed his cheek and eventually he fell asleep with his head resting my lap. I stayed awake for the remainder of the night. At least I tried to anyway.
I was awoken around 3am from the something that smelled like rotten flesh. My eyes fluttered open and I jumped slightly by I couldn't get far because Aaron's head was still in my lap. I held back a scream and stared death in eyes. Only a few inches away from my face was a large black coyote. It's mouth was hanging open fully exposing its sharp fang-like teeth. Drool was dripping from it's mouth and onto the dirt ground in between us. It was letting out a low growl and had it's eyes fixed on mine. I was it's target. It's prey. However, it started back away. Was I safe? Maybe it caught a whiff of me and lost it's appetite. It stopped when it was a good ten feet away from me. Just when I was about to let out a sigh of relief, it started running towards me. I screamed, probably letting everyone know where we were, and then it jumped and lounged straight for me.
Here is Part Three! I know you have been waiting for it! Sorry it is kind of late but expect Part Four soon enough. Along with some new stories as well!
